Into the Social Fabric (2020)
Once, the United States was often described as a "melting pot" society, where many immigrants assimilated into mainstream American culture, adopting its customs while losing some of their own uniqueness. However, with the rise in immigration from Asian and Latino communities, their distinct cultures, customs, and diverse contributions across various sectors have become more apparent in American society. As a result, individuals from mainstream society argue that recent immigrants are less inclined to embrace American culture and customs. This perception has led to their exclusion and discrimination. But is it accurate to say that many Asians and Latinos outright refuse to learn American culture and customs? Recent studies on immigrant behavior indicate that such a belief is unfounded. Recent immigrants, including Asian Americans and Latinos, actively learn the culture and language of the United States because they aspire to integrate into the social fabric of the country.
To respect each immigrant's efforts to become a member of the social fabric of the United States, I embed the fact from a reliable data source into the flag of the United States with every stitch on this embroidery work. The care that I take with each hand-sewn stitch shows how my whole heart values this message.
